Assumptions

Assumptions simplify mental processing by providing a framework of thought and narrowing down solution space, but if they are wrong you will miss the true solution. After you have assumed things and found a quick solution, go check that your assumptions were correct before acting on that solution. It is often easier than making no assumptions at all, and works equally great for relationships and selecting database engines.
